Double-Sided: Two Patterns in One Mat · Traditional Brocade Weave, Quanzhou Craft · Six Classical Pattern Options

Two Sides. Six Patterns. One Considered Tea Table.

The ovanyu Double-Sided Brocade Tea Mat is a dry-brewing mat woven from brocade using traditional craft techniques in Quanzhou, Fujian — a region with a documented history in silk and brocade production. Each mat is reversible, with a distinct pattern woven into each face, so the mat can be flipped to suit the arrangement of the day or to present a different visual character without changing the surface entirely. Six pattern options are available — Wheel Flower, Tortoise Shell, Ocean Wave, Precious Flower, Lute Flower, and Ancient Coin — each drawn from classical Chinese decorative motifs and rendered in a color palette suited to a composed, traditional tea table. Two sizes cover compact and standard tea tray setups.

Why You'll Love It
  • Double-Sided: Two Patterns in One Mat — Each mat is woven with a distinct pattern on each face. Flipping the mat changes the surface character of the tea table without requiring a second mat — a practical feature for those who set up differently by session, by season, or by the tea being served.
  • Traditional Brocade Weave, Quanzhou Craft — The mat is woven from brocade using traditional techniques from Quanzhou, Fujian, a city with a long history in textile production. The weave produces a fine, dense surface with a subtle sheen and a structured body that lies flat and holds its shape on the table without curling at the edges.
  • Six Classical Pattern Options — Wheel Flower (blue circular medallion), Tortoise Shell (geometric gold hexagonal), Ocean Wave (relief-texture moss green), Precious Flower (multi-color medallion patchwork), Lute Flower (dark bronze curvilinear botanical), and Ancient Coin (deep green tonal embossed). Each pattern references a recognizable motif from Chinese decorative tradition — none are graphic prints; all are woven into the fabric structure.
  • Composed, Non-Competing Palette — The color palette across all six patterns — blue, gold, moss green, deep bronze, and tonal dark green — is calibrated to work alongside the ceramics, wood, and stone typical of a traditional tea table without visually dominating the arrangement. The mat anchors the setup rather than decorating it.
  • Two Sizes for Different Table Configurations — The small size (18 × 40 cm) suits a compact single-tray setup or a personal tea table with a gaiwan and two cups. The standard size (23 × 48 cm) accommodates a larger tray arrangement with a teapot, fairness pitcher, and multiple cups.
Product Details
  • Material: Double-sided brocade (woven, not printed)
  • Craft: Traditional brocade weaving
  • Origin: Quanzhou, Fujian
  • Available Patterns: Wheel Flower, Tortoise Shell, Ocean Wave, Precious Flower, Lute Flower, Ancient Coin
  • Available Sizes:
    • Small: 18 cm × 40 cm
    • Standard: 23 cm × 48 cm
  • Care: Spot clean with a damp cloth; avoid soaking or machine washing; lay flat to dry if the surface becomes wet; store flat or loosely rolled to preserve the weave structure
How to Use
  • Dry-brewing setup: Place the mat flat on the table surface as the central layer under the tea tray, or directly under the teapot and cups if no tray is used. The brocade surface provides a defined working area and a soft, stable base for ceramic and glass pieces.
  • Flipping for a different look: Each face has its own distinct pattern — rotate or flip the mat between sessions to present a different visual surface. The two faces of the same mat will generally pair naturally given the coordinated palette of the series.
  • Pairing with other surfaces: The mat can be layered on top of a wooden tea table, a bamboo mat, or a stone tray surround — the structured brocade surface sits stably on all of these without sliding significantly during use.
FAQ

Q: Are the patterns printed onto the fabric or woven in?
A: The patterns are woven into the brocade structure — they are not surface prints. The pattern detail is visible on both faces of the mat because the design is formed by the weave itself rather than applied after weaving.

Q: Do both sides of the mat have the same pattern?
A: No. Each face of the mat has a distinct pattern. The two patterns on each mat are coordinated in palette but visually different, so the mat offers two usable surfaces.

Q: Can this mat be used under a wet-brewing tray with drainage?
A: The mat is designed for dry-brewing use and is not intended to absorb significant water. If used near a drainage setup, keep the mat positioned outside the wet zone and wipe any splashes dry promptly.

Q: Which size works for a standard gongfu tea tray?
A: Most standard gongfu tea trays fall in the 30–40 cm length range. The standard mat (23 × 48 cm) extends slightly beyond the tray on each end, framing the arrangement. The small mat (18 × 40 cm) suits compact trays or a direct-on-table gaiwan setup without a tray.
