Aged White Tea

What is aged white tea?

Aged white tea is white tea that has been stored under controlled conditions for multiple years. Through aging, the tea develops deeper flavors, smoother texture, and enhanced wellness properties. The Chinese saying goes: "一年茶,三年药,七年宝" — "One year is tea, three years is medicine, seven years is treasure."

How is aged tea different from fresh white tea?

Fresh white tea offers delicate floral notes and light sweetness. Aged white tea develops richer honey flavors, dried fruit notes, herbal warmth, and a silky smooth mouthfeel with no astringency. The caffeine also mellows over time, making it gentler on the stomach.

Which aged tea should I choose?

2-3 years: Perfect introduction - light honey sweetness, dried flowers, smooth finish
4-6 years: Balanced complexity - rich honey, dried fruit notes, silky texture
7-10 years: Deep character - mellow sweetness, warming herbs, exceptional smoothness
10+ years: Rare treasure - complex fruit, wood and earth notes, long aftertaste

How should I brew aged white tea?

Use water at 95-100°C (hotter than fresh white tea). For gongfu style: 5-7g in a gaiwan, quick rinse, then 10-15 second infusions. Aged tea can give 8-12 excellent infusions. See our complete brewing guide for detailed instructions.

Does aged white tea have less caffeine?

Yes, caffeine mellows with age. Aged white tea typically has 15-25mg per cup, compared to 20-30mg in fresh white tea, making it suitable for afternoon or evening enjoyment.

How do I verify the tea is authentically aged?

Look for: natural color transition (silver to amber/brown), intact leaf structure, clean honey or dried fruit aroma, clear amber liquor, smooth taste with no off-flavors, and multiple high-quality infusions. All our teas come with verified aging history and storage documentation.

Can I age fresh white tea myself?

Yes, but it requires proper conditions: cool dark place (18-25°C), moderate humidity (50-70%), breathable container (paper, cotton, clay), and regular monitoring. Store away from strong odors and direct sunlight.

Processing begins after payment is confirmed. The product page and checkout show any special lead time for pre-orders, launches, or handmade work.

Will I receive tracking?

When the chosen service includes tracking, the carrier link is sent to the email used at checkout.

Do you ship internationally?

Available destinations and services appear at checkout. Import duties and taxes may be collected separately by the destination country.

How is teaware packed?

Fragile pieces are packed to limit movement and protect edges. Please retain all packaging if anything arrives damaged.

Tea Storage & Quality

How should I store tea?

Keep tea sealed, dry, and away from heat, light, and strong odours. Use clean, dry utensils when measuring leaves. For aged white tea intended for long-term storage, use breathable containers in a cool, stable environment.

How do I choose a tea?

Start with the flavour and body described on each product page. For aged white tea, consider your experience level: 2-3 year aged for beginners, 6-8 year for balanced complexity, 9+ years for connoisseurs. The brewing guide offers practical starting points.

Are harvest and origin details exact?

We publish the information supplied for each lot. All our white tea comes from Fujian Province, China, with verified harvest years and aging history. Natural variation between seasons is expected.

How long does tea stay fresh after opening?

Fresh white tea: 6-12 months in airtight container. Aged white tea: Can continue aging if stored properly. Once opened, consume within 3-6 months for optimal flavor, though aged tea remains stable longer.

Teaware

Will handmade pieces look identical?

No. Small variations in tone, glaze, shape, and firing are part of handmade work and are not normally faults.

How should I care for teaware?

Follow the care note on the product page. In general, avoid sudden temperature changes and let pieces dry fully before storage.

What brewing vessel should I use for aged white tea?

A gaiwan (100-150ml) is ideal for exploring aged tea's evolving character across multiple infusions. A small Yixing teapot also works well. For casual brewing, any teapot or mug is fine with Western-style brewing.
