Hand-Painted Spring Field Motifs — Each Piece Is Individual · Japanese Aesthetic, Complete Matcha Setup · Ceramic Bowl Sized for Usucha and Koicha

Product details

Matcha has a method. This set is built around it. Designed in a Japanese aesthetic with hand-painted spring field motifs, the ovanyu 8-piece matcha set brings together everything needed for a complete matcha preparation — a ceramic matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk, a whisk holder, a bamboo scoop, a ceramic scoop rest, a fine-mesh sifter, a pouring vessel, and a linen storage pouch — each piece chosen for how it works in the hand and how it sits on a surface.

The ceramics are made in a traditional Japanese style with a hand-applied glaze and spring field illustrations painted in underglaze before firing. No two pieces are identical. The palette is restrained: soft ivory, warm sage, and ink-line botanicals — imagery that references the seasonal quality of good matcha without overstating it.

  • Hand-Painted Spring Field Motifs — Each Piece Is Individual — The ceramic pieces in this set are decorated by hand before firing, using underglaze techniques that produce fine-line botanical illustrations that are fixed permanently into the surface. The motifs vary slightly piece to piece. This is not a defect; it is the nature of hand-painted ceramics.
  • Japanese Aesthetic, Complete Matcha Setup — The set is composed around the full matcha preparation sequence: sift, scoop, whisk, pour, rest. Every tool has a place, and every ceramic piece has a corresponding rest or holder so nothing sits directly on the counter surface. The result is a setup that looks considered because it is.
  • Ceramic Bowl Sized for Usucha and Koicha — The matcha bowl (chawan) is proportioned for both thin-style (usucha) and thick-style (koicha) preparation. The interior curvature supports the circular whisking motion without the whisk catching on the walls. The rim is wide enough for drinking directly from the bowl.
  • Bamboo Whisk and Holder Included — The chasen is a hand-tied 80-tine bamboo whisk suitable for full emulsification of matcha powder. The ceramic whisk holder keeps the tines in their curved form when the whisk is not in use, extending its working life significantly compared to storing it flat.
  • Linen Storage Pouch — Packaged for Gifting or Travel — The set ships in a natural linen drawstring pouch that holds all eight components. It functions as a storage solution, a travel case for the ceramics, and a ready presentation format for gifting without additional packaging.

Set Contents
1 × Ceramic matcha bowl (chawan) — hand-painted, Japanese style
1 × Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) — 80-tine
1 × Ceramic whisk holder (chasen kusenaoshi)
1 × Bamboo matcha scoop (chashaku)
1 × Ceramic scoop rest
1 × Fine-mesh matcha sifter
1 × Ceramic pouring vessel (katakuchi)
1 × Natural linen storage pouch

Materials: ceramic (hand-painted underglaze), bamboo, stainless steel mesh, natural linen
Style: Japanese, spring field motif
Suitable for: usucha (thin matcha), koicha (thick matcha), matcha latte preparation

How to Use
1. Sift: Measure 1–2 teaspoons of matcha powder through the fine-mesh sifter into the matcha bowl. Sifting breaks up clumps and produces a smoother final texture.
2. Add water: Pour approximately 60–75ml of hot water (not boiling — 160–175°F / 70–80°C) into the bowl over the sifted matcha.
3. Whisk: Using the bamboo whisk, move in a rapid W or M motion (not circular) until the matcha is fully emulsified and a light foam forms on the surface. This typically takes 20–30 seconds.
4. Pour and drink: Drink directly from the bowl, or pour into a cup using the ceramic pouring vessel for a more controlled serve. The wide rim of the chawan is designed for direct drinking.
5. Clean: Rinse the bamboo whisk immediately after use under warm running water — do not use soap on the bamboo. Place it on the whisk holder to dry and maintain its shape. Hand-wash the ceramic pieces with warm water and mild soap; do not put in the dishwasher.

FAQ

Q: Are the ceramics dishwasher-safe?
A: No. The hand-painted ceramics in this set are not dishwasher-safe. The underglaze decoration and glaze surface will deteriorate with repeated dishwasher cycles. Hand-wash with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge. Mild dish soap is fine on the ceramic pieces.

Q: Will the painted motifs fade or chip over time?
A: The illustrations are applied in underglaze before firing, which means they are fired into the ceramic surface rather than applied on top of it. With normal hand-washing care, the decoration is durable and will not fade with regular use.

Q: What grade of matcha works best with this set?
A: Ceremonial-grade matcha produces the best results with this set — finer particle size, fuller emulsification, and more pronounced aroma. Culinary-grade matcha can be used and will produce a serviceable cup, but the flavor profile is typically more bitter and less nuanced.

Q: Is this set suitable for someone learning matcha preparation for the first time?
A: Yes. The set includes every tool needed for the full preparation process. The bamboo scoop takes the guesswork out of measuring, and the sifter step — which many entry-level matcha kits omit — makes a noticeable difference in the final texture. The instructions above are sufficient to produce a good cup from the first use.

Q: Is this set suitable as a gift?
A: Yes. The linen storage pouch holds all eight pieces and presents cleanly without additional gift wrapping. The hand-painted motifs and the completeness of the set make it a considered gift for anyone with an interest in Japanese tea culture, kitchen aesthetics, or specialty beverages.
