Lemon Yellow, Drawn into a Three-Part Form

The ovanyu Lemon Yellow Gaiwan brings a clear color glaze and hand-painted double lines to the traditional bowl, lid, and saucer arrangement. Its rounded form keeps the design approachable, while the fine lines give the separate pieces a more defined outline. Pair it with plain tasting cups to let the yellow remain the focus, or use it with the coordinating yellow cup for a closer color match. The gaiwan is intended for loose-leaf steeping with water heated separately.

Why You’ll Love It
  • A bright color glaze: Lemon yellow is the main visual feature of this gaiwan. The broad areas of color make it an effective accent in a compact tea setup, especially when the surrounding cups and pitcher are kept relatively simple.
  • Fine hand-painted lines: The double-line detail adds a measured decorative element to the plain glaze. It rewards a close view without requiring an elaborate pattern, and gives the rounded shape a slightly more structured visual rhythm.
  • Bowl, lid, and saucer: The three-part arrangement gives each element a clear role: the bowl holds the infusion, the lid helps retain leaves as you pour, and the saucer provides a resting place. Handling the lid and bowl is part of the gaiwan brewing method.
  • Direct control over the infusion: A gaiwan places the loose leaves in an open bowl beneath a lid. You decide when to pour and how far to open the gap, making it a hands-on choice for short infusions and repeated steeping as your tea allows.
  • A flexible center for your tea service: Use the gaiwan with your own tasting cups and, if preferred, a serving pitcher. This lets you choose the surrounding pieces by color, size, and number of guests instead of committing to a complete matching service.
Product Details
  • Brand: ovanyu
  • Material: Ceramic
  • Included: One gaiwan in the selected option; accompanying cups and scene props are not included.
  • Care: Hand wash with a soft sponge; dry the lid and bowl separately.
How to Use
  1. Arrange and practice: Place the gaiwan on a stable surface with a cup or pitcher nearby. If the grip is unfamiliar, practice lifting and pouring with cool water before brewing hot tea.
  2. Add tea and water: Rinse the bowl, add loose leaves, and pour in water heated separately to a temperature appropriate for the tea. Leave space below the rim for handling and leaf expansion.
  3. Steep, then decant: Rest the lid on the bowl while steeping. Offset it slightly to create a narrow gap, then pour carefully while retaining the larger leaves. Keep fingers clear of steam and hot surfaces.
  4. Finish the session: Repeat infusions if suitable for the tea. Remove leaves afterward, hand wash gently, and allow the separate parts to dry completely before reassembling for storage.
FAQ

Q: How does a gaiwan hold back the leaves?
A: The lid is shifted slightly to leave a small gap at the rim. When the bowl is tilted, tea passes through that gap while larger leaves remain inside. Very fine particles may still pass into the cup or pitcher.

Q: Can I heat water directly in it?
A: No. This is a steeping vessel for water heated separately, not a stovetop kettle. Keep it away from burners and open flames, and take care when handling the bowl and lid after adding hot water.

Q: Do I need a serving pitcher?
A: A pitcher is optional for a single serving but useful when sharing. Pouring the infusion into it first lets you divide the tea among cups without leaving the remaining portion steeping in the gaiwan.

Q: Is a gaiwan suitable for someone learning gongfu tea?
A: It can be, provided you are comfortable learning the grip and pouring method. Start with cool-water practice, use a stable work surface, and leave room below the rim. Ceramic surfaces can become hot during use.
