Deep Roasted-Bean Fragrance · Smooth, Substantial Body · West Lake Hillside Origin
West Lake Longjing is defined by one thing above all else: the fragrance that rises from a hot wok when skilled hands press fresh spring leaves against seasoned iron. That moment — part fire, part pressure, part instinct — is where the tea's character is made. Longjing No. 10 is sourced from the West Lake growing area in Hangzhou, where the hillside mineral soils and temperate lake microclimate have shaped this cultivar's aromatic profile for generations.
No. 10 sits in the heart of the Longjing range: more accessible than a pre-Qingming single-bud grade, more expressive than a mass-market blend. It delivers the roasted-bean depth that defines West Lake Longjing without reservation — a everyday tea with the kind of character that holds up to daily attention.
Ingredients
100% single-origin West Lake Longjing green tea (Camellia sinensis), Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. No additives, no blending, no artificial flavoring. Net weight: 125g.
How to Brew — Hot
Water temperature: 175–185°F (80–85°C)
Leaf ratio: 3–4g per 200ml
Steep time: 60–90 seconds for the first infusion; extend by 15–20 seconds per subsequent steep
Vessel: Glass tumbler or wide porcelain cup — the flat leaves display cleanly and the liquor color is worth observing
Yields 3–4 infusions. Roasted fragrance peaks on the first and second steeps.
How to Brew — Cold
Leaf ratio: 5g per 500ml of cold, filtered water
Steep time: 5–8 hours in the refrigerator
Result: A mellow, lightly sweet cold brew where the roasted note softens into a warm background character. Clean, smooth, and easy to drink — a good daily cold brew option during warmer months.
FAQ
Q: How does Longjing No. 10 compare to No. 13 in your range?
A: No. 13 is the higher grade — more aromatic intensity, denser body, longer finish. No. 10 is the range's everyday expression: the same West Lake origin and hand pan-firing process, with a slightly lighter fragrance profile that makes it more forgiving to brew and well-suited to daily use. If you're new to Longjing, No. 10 is the natural starting point.
Q: What gives Longjing its distinctive toasty fragrance?
A: The roasted-bean aroma is a direct result of hand pan-firing. As the leaves are pressed and shaped against a hot iron wok, Maillard reactions develop nutty, toasted aromatic compounds that are sealed into the flat leaf structure. The technique has remained largely unchanged for centuries because it works — no machine reliably replicates the result.
Q: Is this tea appropriate for someone new to Chinese green tea?
A: Yes. Longjing's roasted character is approachable and familiar — closer to toasted grain than to the grassy or seaweed notes found in Japanese green teas. No. 10's moderate intensity makes it a welcoming entry point, and its forgiving brew window means a slightly longer steep won't significantly compromise the cup.
Q: How many servings does 125g yield?
A: At 3–4g per session with 3–4 infusions each, 125g provides approximately 30–40 brewing sessions — suitable for consistent daily use over several weeks.
Q: How should I store it?
A: Airtight container, away from heat, light, and strong odors. Refrigerate for storage beyond two weeks in a fully sealed container. Allow to return to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation from forming on the leaves.
