Product details

Most green teas are defined by their flavor alone. Golden Bud No. 08 announces itself before the first steep: a dry leaf of uniform amber-gold, each bud covered in fine silvery down that catches light the way raw silk does. This is not an aesthetic accident — it is the direct result of picking only the youngest, most tender single buds at the precise moment when their natural pigment is at its most concentrated, then processing them in a way that preserves rather than diminishes that color.

The garden is in a high-altitude growing area where cooler temperatures slow the leaf's development, allowing a longer accumulation of the compounds responsible for both the golden hue and the tea's distinctive aromatic character. The result is a green tea that is as much an object as it is a beverage — something worth looking at before you drink it.

  • Striking Golden Dry Leaf — The visual centerpiece of this tea: uniform amber-gold buds with a fine silvery down, formed by single-bud picking at peak pigment development. Displayed in a glass vessel, the dry leaf alone is worth the pause before brewing.
  • Pale Gold Liquor, Clean and Luminous — The brewed cup matches the dry leaf — a clear, warm golden-yellow liquor with exceptional clarity. The color signals the quality of the raw material before flavor even enters the picture.
  • Delicate Floral-Sweet Fragrance — Gentle and refined: a soft floral opening with a honey-like sweetness that develops as the cup cools. The aroma is understated compared to roasted-style green teas — more whisper than statement, more precision than presence.
  • Smooth, Refined Palate — Light-to-medium body with a silky texture and a clean, naturally sweet finish. No bitterness, no astringency — the hallmark of single-bud material processed without cutting corners on timing or temperature.
  • Single-Bud Harvest, High-Altitude Garden — Only the unopened terminal bud is selected — no accompanying leaf, no compromise on size or color consistency. High-altitude cultivation slows development and concentrates the character that makes this grade visually and aromatically distinct.

Ingredients
100% single-origin golden bud green tea (Camellia sinensis), high-altitude garden, China. Single-bud picking, minimal processing. No additives, no blending, no artificial coloring or flavoring. Net weight: 125g.

How to Brew — Hot
Water temperature: 167–176°F (75–80°C) — lower temperature preserves the delicate floral notes and the clarity of the liquor
Leaf ratio: 3g per 150–200ml
Steep time: 60–120 seconds for the first infusion; extend by 20–30 seconds for subsequent steeps
Vessel: Glass — ideally a clear glass tumbler or gaiwan, so the golden buds and the liquor color are fully visible during brewing
Yields 2–3 infusions. The floral sweetness is most defined on the first steep; subsequent steeps yield a mellower, lighter expression.

How to Brew — Cold
Leaf ratio: 4g per 500ml of cold, filtered water
Steep time: 4–6 hours in the refrigerator
Result: A delicately sweet, lightly floral cold brew with exceptional clarity and a pale gold color. One of the most visually appealing cold brews in the ovanyu range. Serve in clear glassware.

FAQ

Q: What gives the dry leaf its golden color?
A: The golden hue comes from two sources: the natural pigmentation of the unopened bud at peak development, and the fine layer of trichomes (the silvery-gold down) that covers young tea buds. Both are preserved through careful low-temperature processing. No artificial coloring is involved — what you see is exactly what the plant produces under the right growing conditions.

Q: How is Golden Bud different from a standard green tea?
A: Most green teas use one bud plus one or two leaves. Golden Bud No. 08 uses only the single unopened bud — the most labor-intensive picking standard in tea production. The yield per garden is substantially lower, but the result is a tea with unusual visual uniformity, a lighter and more refined flavor profile, and a liquor clarity that multi-leaf grades rarely achieve.

Q: Why does it brew fewer infusions than other teas in the range?
A: Single-bud teas have a smaller surface area and a more delicate cell structure than leaf-inclusive grades. They release their character more completely in the first steep and have less in reserve for subsequent infusions. Two or three steeps at the right temperature will yield far more than pushing a fourth or fifth.

Q: Is this tea appropriate as a gift?
A: It is one of the most gift-appropriate teas in the range. The visual impact of the golden dry leaf — especially when presented in clear packaging — makes it immediately legible as a premium object to someone who may not know tea grades by name. The flavor is approachable enough for a non-specialist to enjoy without instruction.

Q: How should I store it?
A: Airtight container, away from heat, light, and strong odors. Golden bud teas are particularly sensitive to moisture and light absorption because of their fine downy surface. Refrigerate for storage beyond two weeks in a fully sealed container, and allow to reach room temperature before opening.
